Il Pomaio and the Chianti from the Hills of Arezzo

Il Pomaio is a winery located on one of the hills surroundng Arezzo, the localita' Pomaio. This estate faces south and enjoys the best sn exposure while offering a great panoramic view. This winery, buit where there was a very old farm (many of the old buildings are still in use) is a very young player in the tuscan winemaking industry (first wine production in 2009) and produces little quantities of high-quality wines, strictly followig green and biologic methodologies.

The owner, Jacopo Rossi, has implemented a very ambitious project called "Think Green" entirely focused on a new way of making wine, leveraging sustainable technologies and showing the highest respect for th environment.  Geotermic energy supports all activities and the use of chemicals is minimized.
The design of the "cantina" was done by the architect Marisa LoCigno using an old etruscan way to build places with a stable temperature: the area where wine is produced is partially underground, surrounded by gigantic stone-walls on three sides. The upper floor, where wine asting takes place, has instead glass-walls to create a direct contact with the external environment and the spectacular vineyards.
Tasting the Pomaio Chianti DOCG will give you an idea of how different the Chianti of the Arezzo hils is; however, you do not wnt to miss the oppotunity to try also the RosAntico, a delicious rose' wine that matches very well  the food served at Il Pomaio.
